You may not know but a very common cause of a vacuum being created within a vessel is where the vessel is hot either from production or a hot caustic wash, and then cold water is introduced cooling the air inside the vessel – the result if there is not an adequate vent is very dramatically evident in these images.

We built the tank for the customer, but along the way the vent pipe was redirected and resulted in a scenario where the vent became blocked and BAM!!!!
